D. Kameda apologizes for breaking rules in world title fight

TOKYO, Japan - Troubled boxer Daiki Kameda apologized in a press conference in Tokyo on Nov. 30 for breaching fight regulations in a WBC flyweight title match last month and said he wants to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. Kameda, 18, had three points deducted in the 12th round of the fight in Tokyo for resorting to underhand tactics against champion Daisuke Naito. He was subsequently slapped with a one-year ban by the Japan Boxing Commission.

Sales of Sharp's TV mobile phones top 5 million in 17 months

OSAKA, Japan - Sales of Sharp Corp.'s TV-equipped mobile phones (photo) have topped 5 million units in Japan since the first models hit the market in May last year, the company said Nov. 2. Overall, domestic shipments of TV mobile phones by all domestic makers totaled 13.2 million units as of the end of August, according to Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association. Sharp, the industry leader, says it will start shipping thinner TV mobile phones later this month that measure 18 millimeters in thickness, 5 mm thinner than the thinnest available models.

However, it is still a record since Italy's adoption of the euro currency in 1999.
